To ensure public safety in the wake of the COVID-19 situation, the Office of Consumer Protection, MoEA and the Drug Regulatory Authority jointly carried out market inspections to check reliability, effectiveness and efficacy of some hand sanitizers that are sold in the market. Some of the available brands were sent for lab testing of alcohol content and also checked for antimicrobial activity. The test results reveal that the following brands of hand sanitizer do not meet the minimum acceptable level of 60% v/v alcohol content (as recommended by the WHO Guideline on Hand Hygiene in Healthcare) and/or antimicrobial activity:
