In accordance to Section 68 and 70 of The Waste Prevention and Management Regulation, 2012, Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) is responsible to monitor and issue guidelines for the prevention and management of wastes stemming from medicinal products while Private Pharmacies are responsible for the cost of its disposal.

Pharmaceutical waste disposal guidelines developed by DRA has been approved by National Environment Commission and the disposal activities are carried as per theguidelines. As a temporary measure DRA has arranged the incineration of Pharmaceutical waste at PCAL, Gomtu till the national level incinerator is available.

Therefore, this is to notify all the private pharmacy retailers and pharmacy wholesalers that the collection of Pharmaceutical waste will be carried out at DRA branch office, Old Medical Supply Depot Building, Phuntsholing from 22 November 2017 till 22 December 2017. As approved by Bhutan Medicines Board during the 13th Board meeting, the charges of Nu. 4/kg will be applicable for each kilogram of waste.
